Performance

The non-hybrid Escape offers a choice of two powertrains, starting with an 181-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with either front- or all-wheel drive. You also get a base turbo-three gas engine. Upgrading to the 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine gives you standard all-wheel drive. Both gasoline engines have an eight-speed automatic transmission. In tests, an all-wheel-drive Escape with the base three-cylinder went from zero to 60 in 7.7 seconds. A turbo-four Escape went from zero to 60 in 5.8 seconds.

The turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder model with front-wheel drive is rated for 27 MPG in the city, 33 MPG on the highway, and 30 MPG combined; adding all-wheel drive gives you 26 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and 28 MPG combined. The three-cylinder is rated at 35 MPG combined. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with all-wheel drive is rated for 23 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined.
